A summary of the video “If I Started Social Media In 2026, I'd Do This” by Gary Vaynerchuk (GaryVee): a compilation of clips from his talks and his answers to audience questions — where the attention is; why “your niche is you”; documenting, not creating; “selfish” content; posting volume; engagement that does not scale; and macro patience with day-to-day speed. Every figure here is the source's own statement.

The Gist in Three Sentences
If you read nothing else
The video is a compilation of clips from Gary's talks and his answers to audience questions, and a single thread runs through them: attention today is on social media, and building a community from scratch has “never been easier” — start by going live on TikTok and bring value to three people. Your niche is you, every detail of you; document what you do instead of inventing what to make; stop the “selfish” content that wants followers, likes, and sales; and make your first video “I am successful and here's how I did it.” As for volume, one post a day on seven platforms is the bare minimum, and engagement is real work that begins after you post, not before: reply to every comment, go live more often, and make content out of your audience's comments — with “macro patience, micro speed.”
1 · The Opening: The Baker Who Is “Not the Exception but the Preview”
[0:00 – 0:50] · The title “If I Started Social Media In 2026” is the channel's; the video is a compilation of clips and the phrase is never spoken in it verbatim
The video opens with a rapid montage of lines that recur later: “Yesterday, my personal brand put out 343 different posts,” “Your niche is you,” and “Every time I post, I look at it and I'm like, why would somebody look at this?”
The baker's story (picked up mid-sentence because of the edit): a woman saw Gary's content and told herself, “I'll just start posting about it”; long story short, just by posting on Instagram and TikTok, two years later she makes $750,000 a year take-home baking “her thing” and shipping it to people around the country, and she's happy and it's changed her life. “She is not the enigma. She is the preview of what everything is going to happen” [0:25]. What she bakes is never named in the video.

2 · No Money: Know Where the Attention Is and Get Great at It
[0:50 – 1:15]
“We had no money, no capital raised, no credit line” (the context is cut off in the edit). His latest book is Day Trading Attention, and his premise for everyone listening, even with little money, is: “right now with organic social, with literally no money, if you know where the attention is and you get good at it, you win.” Social media is the current place where attention is; if the metaverse comes, he'll be telling you what to do in those headsets; 20 years ago he'd have been writing about cable TV, 40 years ago about regular TV, and 80 years ago about radio. “I'm agnostic to what platform has the attention. I just want to figure out where it is and want to be great at it” [1:15].

3 · The Easiest Time to Build Community: Going Live for Thirteen People
[1:15 – 2:06]
“This is the easiest time to build community in the world.” How would he build one if he were starting from scratch? By doing what he is doing at that very moment: going on TikTok Live and talking to people. “I am envious of all of you that have less than 1,000 followers on TikTok. I am envious because I love the climb and the build” [1:15]; those under 1,000 would have only 13, 9, 6, 33, or 41 people in the room, and they could go deep with them. The method: go live on TikTok, let the algorithm and the For You page (FYP) send you people, bring them value on video, start from scratch and build up every day, and go live as often as you can. “It's never been easier.”
4 · Your Niche Is You: Jigsaw Puzzles and Beer
[2:06 – 2:57]
The subject of “jigsaw puzzles” comes up in the conversation, and Gary answers: filming yourself putting together a jigsaw puzzle and posting clips of that on TikTok gets you, “at bare minimum, brother,” to $5,000 a year in brand deals from jigsaw puzzle companies. “You got to go niche-er and niche-er”: you're doing the jigsaw, you're making your content, and then — real quick — “let me tell you about this beer”; and all of a sudden it's the beer part that took off, and that's where you're making your money, not the jigsaw, or both, or you're “the only beer jigsaw person.”
“Your niche is you. Like I'm a Jets fan, root beer, garage sale … the more you give the world every little nuance of you, the more likely you have a point of differentiation.”
Documenting, not creating. He “really, really, really” wants to talk about it; one of the reasons he loves this concept is that he's concerned you don't know what to make — which is why he loves live streaming: Go live at your desk while you're working, with three people watching at first.

5 · Your Content Is “Selfish” — and You Were Not Shadow Banned
[2:57 – 4:14]
“You make content that is selfish. You make content for you to get followers. You make content for you to get likes. You make content for you to sell something to someone.” He himself, every time he posts, looks at the post and asks: “Why would somebody look at this?” “You were not shadow banned. You just make content that nobody cares about” [3:22]. Not every video can be “sell, sell, sell, sell, sell.” He mentions his book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: a “jab” is you giving content for them. What if your first video was: “I am successful and here's how I did it”? You can give your audience free advice; the more value you give, the more likely they are to buy when you finally ask them to look at something. So if you decide today to go on your journey “because finally this morning I broke through to your head,” make sure your content is “overwhelmingly bringing them value, not you value. You must bring them value first” [3:48].

6 · Don't Sell the Apartment in Your First Post: Cook, and Write Inside Facebook
[4:14 – 5:31]
You can't say in your first post: “I have a fractional apartment in Orlando and you can buy it for a week and you can lease it out for 2 years and sell it for …” (the sentence is cut off in the edit). “You can, you're not going to sell anything.” Maybe you want to sell real estate, but the other thing you're good at in your real life is cooking: so make cooking videos all the time; when someone sees your cooking videos, they find your information as a real estate person in your profile, and you will literally make a video about a dish that people watch because it was good and because you brought value — and that is what will actually lead to people emailing you and buying an apartment from you.
And if you're a good writer and want to build a presence for your business or for yourself, he highly recommends that you blog inside of Facebook and Instagram: he literally means writing 7, 15, or 25 sentences — three, four, or five paragraphs' worth of written content — “that people will absolutely consume.”

7 · “Our Agents Post Five Times a Week with No Results”: 343 Posts
[5:05 – 6:23]
“The fine gentleman” asked him: a lot of our agents are frustrated because they're posting five times a week and not getting the results they're looking for. He answered: “I posted for my personal brand yesterday 343 pieces of content … I need everyone to hear me one more time. Yesterday, my personal brand put out 343 different posts” [5:31]. The bare minimum, if you're really going for it: one post that is posted on YouTube Shorts and TikTok and Facebook and LinkedIn and Twitter — one post that goes on seven platforms (he names five platforms and says “seven”). If you did that daily, “that's at least enough for me to say: you're not dodging it.”
“Leaving your two cents”: look at the photo and then leave a comment that means something — he calls that “leaving your two cents” — and “do that 90 times a day, and that's your $1.80 strategy” [5:57] (2 cents × 90, by his own phrasing). Increased engagement comes from non-scalable behaviors.
8 · Three Points on Engagement — and the Work Starts After You Post
[6:23 – 6:48]
- Reply to every comment you get, every time, for the rest of your life. He did that for the first five years of his career, “before it became mathematically impossible.”
- Go live on Instagram and TikTok more often so you can actually interact.
- Do something like the AskGaryVee show: when people leave comments, extract them and do a show like this, so people can see that you're actually listening to their comments.
“Engagement takes work. Most people think the work is done once you post the content. To me, that's the beginning of the work process on your way up” [6:48].

9 · Macro Patience, Micro Speed — and a First Video for Someone Who Has Never Posted
[6:48 – 7:49]
The phrase “Macro patience, micro speed” comes up, and he explains it to a questioner he describes as young: building something meaningful — a relationship or a business — takes 10, 20, or 30 years, whereas in your day-to-day work you have to be fast. Your vision, what you want to achieve in life, you won't build in a year; “so many people have it reversed. In the day-to-day, they're slow. And in the macro, they want their business to be huge the next day. So you need to reverse it” [7:13].
A last question: a questioner with a “million dollar weight loss practice” who has never done social: what's the first thing to do? “I'll probably tell your story. Like, you know, tell your story on the first one. Sets the tone. It's easy cuz you know it. What do you talk about? You talk about what you know. You talk about what you know” [7:38].
Methodology. This summary was prepared on 13 September 2026 from the video's English auto-generated transcript (pulled with yt-dlp; about 1,460 words over 7 minutes and 49 seconds), read in full, and in parallel by two readers and a completeness checker, and from 11 screenshots at 1080p, chosen where the text cards and the edit are on display and cropped to the content's edges without alteration. The video is a compilation of clips from different talks and occasions, with many cuts in the edit; some sentences are picked up mid-sentence (the baker's story, the Orlando apartment example), and they are reported that way, with the cut noted, and nothing was filled in from outside the video. A screenshot of the sales counter that appears during the baker's story was dropped because its figure animates on screen and never settles on a single value; only the spoken figure was relied on. The title phrase “If I Started Social Media In 2026” comes from the channel and is never spoken in the video verbatim, so it is not attributed to the speaker. Every figure is the source's own statement, not a measurement of ours, including that Gary says “seven platforms” while naming five; it is reported as such. The questioners are described only as the transcript describes them (no profession and no gender where none is mentioned). His mentions of his two books and his show were kept because they are part of what he says, and no link was added to anything. This version replaces an earlier file in the folder that contained “a practical action plan” and “practical examples and conversions” of our own making, along with off-brand formatting; all of it was removed for breaching Article 3, and nothing was carried over from it. The translation is by meaning, in fluent Arabic, per Article 3.4, as amended, with no meaning added or removed within what was kept. Publication: This page was uploaded to shortitfor.me/garyvee-2026 on 13 September 2026, on the owner's explicit written command for this specific file (“upload it to my summaries site”) — a documented exception to Article 6 of the Summaries Constitution, and the page is tagged noindex, as the same Article requires.
